Papers of shipmaster John Suter concerning the northwest coast fur trade with Canton, China, and the sandalwood trade with Hawaii. Includes papers for ships Alert, Pearl, Atahualpa, Mentor, and brig Cleopatra's Barge; a log of a voyage in the schooner Tamaahmaah (1815) with memoranda of the islands and shoals in the Pacific Ocean, and furs collected by the ship Mentor, 1817-18; a log of a voyage in the Mentor (1821), and the Alert (1821-22); personal diary/account book kept at Oahu, 1821; account book kept at Canton, with memoranda of teas shipped by the brig Brutus and ship Volunteer, 1818; and accounts of the ship Mentor, 1817-18. (Cont.) Also, an 1821 letter from King Tamoree (Kaumualii) and Queen Charlotte Tapoolee (Deborah Kapule) of Kauai; papers related to various shipping ventures with William H. Boardman and Bryant & Sturgis, 1828-48; and an 1848 letter from R.B. Forbes concerning charting the Pacific Ocean.
